Simone Formentin was born in Legnano (MI), Italy, in 1984. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree summa cum laude in Automatic Control Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (Italy) in 2006 and 2008, respectively.

From 2009 to 2011, he was a Ph.D. student in Information Technology within a joint program between Politecnico di Milano and Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria). From December 2011 to August 2012, he was a post-doctoral fellow at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland.

He served as a post-doctoral fellow at Università degli studi di Bergamo (Italy) in 2013.

Currently, he is Tenure Track Associate Professor at the Politecnico di Milano. He is also Visiting Professor at the Università degli studi di Bergamo (Italy), teaching Model Identification.

His research interests include data-driven controller tuning approaches and automotive control.
